About Carmel Valley Pediatrics
Welcome to Carmel Valley Pediatrics where comprehensive pediatric care is woven with a gentle touch for healthy kids. Dr. de Freitas and her staff strive to make our office comfortable while providing the best up to date pediatric care. Our philosophy is a child-centered health environment for your children and a place to obtain the latest healthy information for parents. We are in this journey together. Office Hours
Weekdays: 9 am – 5 pm
All weekend hours are for sick visits only
Saturday: 9:30 am – 12:00 pm
11:00 am – 4 or 5 pm at El Camino Pediatrics in Encinitas
Sunday: 9 am – 5 pm at El Camino Pediatrics in Encinitas
The office is closed during weekdays from 12:30 pm to 2 pm. Prenatal interviews are free and done during this time. Please call after 9 am for sick children who will need to be seen that day. For physical exam appointments, prescription refills, ext., it is best to call after 10 am or after 2:30 pm. Sick children will be seen the same day if necessary. Physical exams will be booked as early as feasible.
Daytime Phone Calls
Office hour phone calls regarding your child’s illness will be answered by Dr. de Freitas usually during the lunch hour. Non-urgent questions regarding your child’s behavior follow up, etc. will be answered after hours. If the call will entail more than 5 – 10 minutes of the doctor’s time, we request that you make appointment.
Billing and Insurance
All co-pays, deductibles and uninsured visits must be paid at the time of service. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and ATM bank cards. If there are any insurance or billing questions, please call our office. It is important for you to understand your insurance coverage. We cannot possibly keep up with the growing number of insurance companies. It is your responsibility to know which hospitals; ER’s, Specialists, labs, etc. are covered under your plan.
Emergencies
A pediatrician is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for your child in case of emergencies. We are in a rotation schedule with El Camino Pediatrics in Encinitas and Dr. Mills and Dr. Sobel. Weeknights and weekend phone calls are answered by the answering service, which will contact the on-call physician (usually on an hourly basis in the evening). It is helpful if you have the information ready for the doctor such as: prescription medicines and dosages, non-prescription medicine names, the child’s problem, including duration of symptoms, and any medical and allergy history that may be relevant, as well as your pharmacy’s phone number. Remember to write down any questions you may have and all the instructions that the doctor may give you. We trust you to use this service appropriately for emergency issues only.
Scheduling Visits
The purpose of well-child visits is to assure the proper growth and development of your child. In addition to immunizations, lab tests, and examining your child, we spend the most of the visit discussing your child’s development and providing you with guidelines for keeping your child healthy and safe. We recommend making a list of your concerns in order to make the most of your visit.
Dr. de Freitas sees newborns at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla and Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas. Your newborn will be seen a few times in the office in the first two weeks then as per the following schedule:
